PERSONAL MUSEUM
I am a huge fan of cartoons. Ever since I was a kid, I grew up with watching them all day, with Tom & Jerry and Felix the Cat as my favorites.

At and older age I started looking into the older cartoons, especially the 30’s. I really like the creativity in the cartoons and the flued animations. Also back in 30’s the cartoons weren’t as innocent as they looked. With this cartoon being a good example.

The cartoon is about Bimbo the dog suddenly being abducted and asked to be member of some club or cult. After saying no, he literally gets tortured until he says yes. There is also a specific reason he says yes, but I’ll keep that a secret for people who want to watch it, its only 6 minutes.

This is one of my favorites because it has creative scenes and funny animations. I also like the story in it. Seems innocent at first, but takes a turn in a way you least expect it.
The Weeknd is one of my favorite artist, ever. After the fairly poppy album Starboy, The Weeknd goes back to the dark twisted R&B that made him famous. His latest album is his first ever solo album. 18 songs, no features, just The Weeknd.

As the artist describes himself “In the After Hours of the night you can find love, fear, friends, enemies, violence, dancing, sex, demons, angels, loneliness and togetherness.”.
With this album he also created a persona, that stars in all of his music videos.

I love this album because The Weeknd goes back to the roots of where I discovered him for the first time. Also because of the ‘era’ he created with this. The dark era he also uses in his amazing music videos, that are almost movie like, and directed by himself.

I could go on and on about this album, but I’ll leave it for now. Here you could also see 2 videos and a live performance of some songs of the album.

Selfportait of a Dreamer
Joseph Klibansky - Sculpture
Self-portrait of a Dreamer is another self-portrait than you expected. It is a sculpture by Joseph Klibansky that was publicly displayed in Amsterdam but is now stationed at Venice in Italy.

This sculpture is about balancing between the normal things (the chair and the plant) as a creative (the astronaut). It may seem impossible, but with a nice balance it will work out.

The size alone amazes me. It’s around 8 meters tall, and that’s without the plateau it is standing on. I can imagine all the work that has to be put in to make and set this sculpture. I also love the story behind it, because you don’t see it at first, but after hearing it you get it.
Blond
Frank Ocean - Musical Album - Pop/Alternative
Besides the fact that this is an amazing album, the story on how it is released is what fascinates me the most.

So the artist, Frank Ocean, signed a deal with a label for 3 albums. After a while he discovered he and his label weren’t on the same line, and released an instrumental album out of protest. And after a while his first full length studio album was released, Chanel Orange, and was 1 album away of being released from his label.

After a lot of teasing music and showing he was busy making songs, a title “Boys Don’t Cry” was being promoted by the label, hinting on a possible next album. Frank Ocean finally released music, a visual album called “Endless” that was a Apple exclusive at the time.

Frank Ocean was finally released from the label and came with his own album “Blond” under his own label named Boys Don’t Cry, overshadowing his recent release of the label. The label was stuck with a visual album that couldn’t be bought, and Frank was finally free, receiving all the royalties of his album.

Thought Paintings
Joseph Klibansky - Paintings - Screenprint
Red
more than a color
Back to homepage
Thought paintings is a series of paintings by Joseph Klibansky, the same artist from the bis sculpture. The paintings are made with screen-print and afterwards have a little touch of paint to create a little more depth. Some of the works have a splash on the background that is applied before the screen-printing.

Klibansky collects his thoughts and memories over a various amount of time, ranging from weeks to months. Than he screen-prints them on a big canvas, forcing them to interact with each other, forcing to create different stories. Every time you look at the painting something else catches your eye forging a different story each time.
Colors play a big role in life. We get feelings and assosiations about some colors. And as you may know, red is my thing, and funny enough I find myself in some of the things red represents. Think about love, passion and desire. But also stress, chaos and even anger. Being both cupid and the devil at the same time. It all links to red.

It is a full range emotional color, and I am a full range emotional human being. So I gathers some works in which some of the characteristics of red come to show, and hereby connecting it back to me again.

There is a way I layed out the works.

If the title and the text is on the right side, it represents the right side of the brain, the fun and creative part. The part that looks at the bigger picture and just enjoys the moment.

If the title and the text is on the left side, it represents the left side of the brain, the analitical part. The part that looks and listens to the details, thinks about how and why, working things out step by step.
This also describes how I look at the works displayed, if its something that I just look at and enjoy, or if its something I stand still by and think about what it really is.
